I'm finding that more people watch Newsbreaks when they're NOT every day (convenient for me, I know, but true). So I'll do 'em Mon/Wed/Fri for a while, okay? Okay.
In the meantime, I saw the movie "Monterey Pop" over the weekend, and was knocked out by Jimi Hendrix. Here's a clip; enjoy.

Just saw this one recently myself. I always new Jimi was great, but no one ever really impressed upon me that he was that great. It's so rare to see something that is raw and gleeful, yet wholly uncontrived. It still comes through even today. "Yes, I know I forgot a verse. Don't worry."
ReplyDeleteMillions of kids learned to play rock and roll in the 50s and 60s, but Jimi--Jimi was plainly born to do it. His early death was a real tragedy (and inspired John Belushi to tread the same sorry path).
ReplyDeleteI recall hearing a story: All throughout '66, Eric Clapton saw graffiti scrawled around the clubs: "Clapton is God." Then he and Jeff Beck--then a really accomplished session man--went to see Jimi play one of his first gigs, at Brian Epstein's Savile Theatre. They watched Jimi play, and when he was done, Clapton turned to Beck and said, "We gotta find another line of work."
